Kintampo Municipal Assembly Inaugurated Market Committee

The Kintampo Municipal Assembly inaugurated market committee in the municipality to undertake some necessary duties to bring revenue to the municipality and to increase the municipality internal generated funds (IGF).

In a short introduction by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Isaac Donkor was very grateful to all for coming. He stated the importance of this committee and he said “this committee membership is carefully selected to be assigned with this very important duties in the Kintampo Municipality all should try to bring out their best, including the technical knowhow for the development of the municipality.

The inaugural service took place at the office of the MCE and was conducted by the Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Isaac Donkor.

Members of the committee who were part of the previous committee being formed outlined some problems and challenges which was faced by the committee such as;

  1. Some market women having two or more selling space and renting them to individual for money.
  2. Prices of items from Techiman being less cost than that of Kintampo.
  3. Market women complain that they are not seeing any develop in the market with very bad sanitation.
  4. Political interactions in the revenue collection in the market
  5. Some Okada riders claim that kintampo belongs to them, so they don’t pay tax.

Attention was down to the fact that, funds are not only got from the market but also the Okada riders, the lorry stations in town and yam market were all areas that attention should be put on.

The Municipal Engineer Mr. Omani who was also part of the committee drew member’s attention to the fact that, the committee should not only focus on revenue side of the market, Okada riders and lorry parks in the municipality but they should also look at the investing in those places to push for future revenue.  

Ad-hoc committee made up of Five (5) members was later formed out of the main committee to investigate and bring reports for further deliberation at the main committee.

In conclusion, the MCE raised a concern that, he personally saw weekly market, some areas turn to be open defecation grounds and very bushy, he called on the committee to be on check to stop bad habit of open defecation.He ended by saying re-allocation of selling places for the market women will be re-allocated after the Ad-hoc committee finish the general committee with their report.

Kintampo Municipal Assembly Inaugurated its Water Supply Board

The Kintampo Municipal Assembly inaugurated its water and sanitation development board in the municipality to make sure that all their activities towards the development of water situation and problems are solve.

The inaugural services which was done by the municipal Chief executive for Kintampo Municipal assembly Mr. Isaac Donkor in his address, stated some duties of the board which included;

  1. Prepare plans for the establishment, rehabilitation, replacement and expansion of the existing system as well as a new system in Kintampo;
  2. Supervise the existing staff to manage the system efficiently and effectively;
  3. In prior consultation with the community, propose an appropriate and equitable tariff to cover the full cost of operation and maintenance of the system and the cost of replacement, subject to the approval of the Assembly;
  4. Recommend appropriate and relevant bye-laws for enactment by the Assembly to regulate water use, enforce tariff and other financial obligations and promote appropriate hygiene practices within the area;
  5. Set procedures and charges for service connection, disconnection, penalties for default and damages to the water system subject to the prior approval of the Assembly;
  6. Prepare and submit to the Assembly for its approval an annual business plan for the management of the system and the promotion of improved sanitation and hygiene; 
  7. Manage an efficient and accessible customer relations system;
  8. Manage funds of the water system prudently, transparently, and accountably on behalf of the area.

In conclusion, “I wish you well in this regard and urge you to remain united to bring about the needed change that would make the system an example for others in the country” he ended

The manager for Kintampo Water Supply System Mr. Salifu Nohu gave the inaugurated board a background information on the water supply system of the municipality which included some historical knowledge, when it was constructed in 2001 with the aim of providing portable water to the people of the district capital by then, by federal republic of Germany, its description that is what it is made up off, source of water, distribution system, power supply, individual household connections, public standpipes, total number of staff, source of finance, audit, challenges and the way forward.

After all the address, members were elected their Chairman and Secretory, Mr. Teow Diwano John and Mr. Gyinde K. Charles was sworn-in respectively.

Kintampo Municipal Assembly First Ordinary Meeting of the Second of the Eighth Assembly.

The Kintampo Municipal Assembly held its first (1st) ordinary meeting of the second (2nd) session of the eight (8th) assembly of the Kintampo Municipal Assembly at the Kintampo municipal assembly hall to deliberate issues in connection to the development of the Municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kintampo Municipal Assembly Mr. Isaac Donkor in his sectional address was grateful to all the assembly members, herds of department and all invited for honoring their invitation to this very important meeting to deliberate on issues that are of importance to the development of kintampo Municipality.

Mr. Donkor in his introduction touched on his first week in his office visiting all government institutions and traditional authorities within the municipality to formalized himself with the various departments, understanding their challenges and strengthen the needed spirit of developing in the municipality. He said “As we begin this journey together, I humbly call on you for your maximum cooperation, advice and constructive criticism.  Let us as people of Kintampo eschew partisan interests and personal differences and put the development and welfare of our people above all else”.

Mr. Donkor the MCE talked of the importance sectors of development in every aspect of our life in the municipality such as; Security which helps as to enjoy development by letting all to understand that the municipality is calm, but we should all promote peace in our neighbourhoods. He also thanked all Chiefs and the elders of the Municipality for their cooperating with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to ensure peace within the municipality.

In finance, MCE touched on how the municipal assembly deals with their Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and other aspects of the expenditure which is provided by the government such as Common Fund in the municipality and the allocations the government has made for each utilization etc.  In Environment Sanitation how the National Sanitation Day carried out etc., in Education, Health, Water, Agricultural and Roads Safety Management were all touched on in his address to all invited and assembly members.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) could not have ended his address without presenting the reports of the executive committee to the house since he was the chairperson of the committee.

He acknowledges the spirit cooperation and unity exhibited by all members of the assembly, especially in their active participation and organization of the various sub-committee meetings. And then presented all the reports in a summarized key issues and recommendations discussed and adopted by the executive committee meetings such as approval of the 2025 annual action plan and 2025 revised budget, construction of fire hydrant in the municipality, establishment of a designated mango market, ban on indiscriminate use of knives and unlicensed firearms in the municipality.

In conclusion, Mr. Isaac Donkor on behalf of the executive committee thanked all assembly members, Department heads and stakeholders in their collective effort to advance the developmental agenda of the Kintampo Municipality
