The Kintmapo Municipality was not left out in this year’s nationwide National farmer’s day celebration which was held at Gulumpe a community in the municipality along the Tamale road.
A the short but colorful durbar held at the community which saw almost all the community farmers who came to exhibit their food crops to the general public, which included maize, rice, vegetables livestock agro chemicals, plants disease control stand and so on.
Mr. Puoyele Jecob came out as the Municipal best farmer with the following Profile; he is 53 of age married, Christian, living and doing his farmer work at Miawani a community in the Kintampo municipality.
His crops cultivated and acreage were; maize 48, yam 26, cashew 22, groundnut 16, cassva 15, sorghum 12, rice 12, millet 4, plantain 3.5, cowpea3.5, Bambara beans 1.5.
He have goats 156, local poultry birds 152, sheep 73, guinea fowls 25, cattle 14, and pigs 12.
Mr. Puoyele also have farm house equipment’s such as Kia truck 1, tractor 1, motor king 1, farm house1, galloons 18, cutlasses 12, hoes 15, Wallington boots 6, knapsack sprayer 5 and barrels 4.
Among all these, he has 4 permeate workers and 12 casual workers.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo Municipality Hon. Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw in his address to the people stated the government intention to improve post-harvest handling and plans to construct warehouses and drying platforms across sites with boreholes drilled to support irrigation and sustainability in agricultural investments.
He Acknowledge that, there are some pressing challenges facing farms in our communities, which are the ongoing tension and conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and farmers which have affected farmers in many parts of our Municipality and he stated it sometimes lead to violence, destruction of crops, loss of livestock and this conflicts threaten not only our livelihood but also peace and harmony of our communities.
He added that, for unity, dialogue, and mutual respect should exist among us “for it is crucial that we find peaceful and lasting solutions to this issue because both farmers and herdsmen are important to the survival and prosperity of our nation” he said and that, farmers grow food we eat and our herdsmen provide the livestock that sustain our meat and dairy industries.
Mr. Baffoe the MCE would not end his speech without touching on some farms which are sometimes disturbed by bushfires during the harmattan season which we as community must take this threat seriously by preventing those fires from happening.
Mr. Kontomah, the Municipal Agric Director spoke on farm lands being distracted by animal of the Fulani herdsmen which is one of our problem that need to be address in our communities.
He use used the opportunity to inform farmer’s who’s crops were districted by the dugout in the middle of the year, government is registering the to support all involved.
In conclusion, he mentioned some challenges faced by the department such as, motorbikes for field supervisions, staff accommodation in the communities and he pleaded the MP and the MCE to try working on the farm roads to enable farmers bring food items from the communities to the town.
