Africa Skills Hub impacts residents of Kintampo Municipality

Africa Skills Hub is a development and social enterprise-oriented organization that creates economic and skill-based opportunities for Africa’s youth and women.

Since 2016 it has impacted directly, over three hundred (300) young graduates to obtain skills and jobs; over two thousand (2000) small and medium enterprises provided with entrepreneurship training; over five thousand (5000) women empowered through our economic empowerment initiatives; and over twelve thousand five hundred (12500) empowered through community dialogues and engagement with their Vision, to be a leading center in the creation of opportunities for Africa’s sustainable development and Mission to build skilled African youth and women as agents of change in their communities.

Last year project managers of Africa Skills Hub were at the kintampo municipality in collaboration with the Municipal Youth Authority to register over Six hundred (600) youth most especially women ages from 18 to 35 to take them through training models such as financial literacy and entrepreneurship and business development which each model is expected to take two days.

In an interview with the Municipal Youth Authority Director Mr. Shaibu Fuseini Fenteduah revealed that, the main aim of the project in the municipality is to support the youth to expand their business and to reduce youth unemployment in the municipality.

2024 NATIONAL FARMERS’ DAY CELEBRATION AT GULUMPE

The Kintmapo Municipality was not left out in this year’s nationwide National farmer’s day celebration which was held at Gulumpe a community in the municipality along the Tamale road.

A the short but colorful durbar held at the community which saw almost all the community farmers who came to exhibit their food crops to the general public, which included maize, rice, vegetables livestock agro chemicals, plants disease control stand  and so on.

Mr. Puoyele Jecob came out as the Municipal best farmer with the following Profile; he is 53 of age married, Christian, living and doing his farmer work at Miawani a community in the Kintampo municipality.

His crops cultivated and acreage were; maize 48, yam 26, cashew 22, groundnut 16, cassva 15, sorghum 12, rice 12, millet 4, plantain 3.5, cowpea3.5, Bambara beans 1.5.

He have goats 156, local poultry birds 152, sheep 73, guinea fowls 25, cattle 14, and pigs 12. 

Mr. Puoyele also have farm house equipment’s such as Kia truck 1, tractor 1, motor king 1, farm house1, galloons 18, cutlasses 12, hoes 15, Wallington boots 6, knapsack sprayer 5 and barrels 4.

Among all these, he has 4 permeate workers and 12 casual workers.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo Municipality Hon. Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw in his address to the people stated the government intention to improve post-harvest handling and plans to construct warehouses and drying platforms across sites with boreholes drilled to support irrigation and sustainability in agricultural investments.

He Acknowledge that, there are some pressing challenges facing farms in our communities, which are the ongoing tension and conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and farmers which have affected farmers in many parts of our Municipality and he stated it sometimes lead to violence, destruction of crops, loss of livestock and this conflicts threaten not only our livelihood but also peace and harmony of our communities.

He added that, for unity, dialogue, and mutual respect should exist among us “for it is crucial that we find peaceful and lasting solutions to this issue because both farmers and herdsmen are important to the survival and prosperity of our nation” he said and that, farmers grow food we eat and our herdsmen provide the livestock that sustain our meat and dairy industries.

Mr. Baffoe the MCE would not end his speech without touching on some farms which are sometimes disturbed by bushfires during the harmattan season which we as community must take this threat seriously by preventing those fires from happening.

Mr. Kontomah, the Municipal Agric Director spoke on farm lands being distracted by animal of the Fulani herdsmen which is one of our problem that need to be address in our communities.

He use used the opportunity to inform farmer’s who’s crops were districted by the dugout in the middle of the year,  government is registering the to support all involved.  

In conclusion, he mentioned some challenges faced by the department such as, motorbikes for field supervisions, staff accommodation in the communities and he pleaded the MP and the MCE to try working on the farm roads to enable farmers bring food items from the communities to the town.

Mr. Jacob Puoyele from Miawani as the best farmer for Kintampo Municipality toke home ; 1 motor tricycle, full piece of cloth, 1 knapsack, 3 crocodile machete, pair of Wallington boot, 1 liter glyphosate, 1 bar key soap, 5 sachets of grain storage his awards.

KINTAMPO MUNICIPAL CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

The Kintampo Municipality was not left out in the celebration of this years’ International Day of the Girl Child.  The Municipal held its celebration at New longoro a community under the Kintampo Municipal Assembly under the theme; “GIRL’S VISION FOR THE FUTURE” organized by the Municipal Education unit.

The Colorful program which stated with drama, poem recitals and flout through the principal streets of New longoro saw a lot of Girls from different schools of the municipality with their coordinators who grace this important and educative program.  Sanitary pads, books and cash was donated to schools and coordinators who organized the program.

The Presiding Member of the Kintampo Municipal Assembly Mr. Dawuda Mohammed who delivered an address on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw made it known to all the students gathered “Girls are very important to our society’s development and they should study hard for they are the future and backbone of our country” He said. Now a days men would like to marry a women who cannot manage a home without little educational back ground which will have an impact in the development of their children in future. He again stated that they should be responsible in their lives in other not to bring teen age pregnancy to burden their parents”.

Mr. Mohammed added that,  looking at the world today, women has contributed to the economic and socio development role of the world, so they should cultivate the habit of taking some well educated women in our society as their role models such as  women lawyers, politicians, directors, teachers and so on.

In conclusion “due to the importance of the girl child education, the President of the republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced the Free Senior High School for all Girls to attend without excuses of no having money for school fees..

Kintampo Municipal Assembly Members Two Days Training from Ministry of Local Government

The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development as part of their mandate in the 1992 Constitution (Chapter 20) and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) designate Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as the highest political, administrative, and executive authorities at the district level.

In addition, Section 12 of the Local Governance Act outlines a District Assembly’s functions, which include “promote local economic development”. Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), among other functions stated in the Act, have a responsibility to;
a) formulate and execute plans, programmes, and development of appropriate strategies for the effective mobilization of resources for local development.
b) Promote and support productive activities and social development and remove all obstacles to local development.

c) monitor the execution of all development projects under approved development plans as well as assess and evaluate their impacts on the standard of living of residents in their areas of
jurisdiction These provisions make it imperative for MMDAs to work with sector departments and agencies, Development Partners (DPs), the private sector and relevant local groups and associations consciously to promote LED and improve income levels of the people.

This training enlighten honorable members on; Policy formulation process, Situation Analysis, Key policy issues, legal context, National flagship initiations, Vision, policy goals, policy objectives, Core values, Guiding principles, How to ensure effective LED multi-stakeholder coordination at all levels, Strengthen capacities at district assembly level for effective LED governance, Improve access to administrative and targeted focal incentives and so on.

All the Sixty three Assembly men from the Municipality attended and according the facilitators, Certificate would be given the each member for participating in the Two (2) days capacity training.

Kintampo Municipal Assembly Educate LEAP Beneficiaries on Productive Inclusive (PI)

As part of Government Social Interventions Programmes in the country to improve standard of living of the poor and venerable in our society, Kintampo Municipality Assembly stated sensitization on Productive Inclusive (PI) of Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP 2) a new Flat ship progamme in some selected LEAP communities in the Municipality.

The programme seeks to achieve, expand and enhance social safety nets that improve the income and productivity of the poor in Ghana, focus being to build on flagship programs of the Government to enhance their effectiveness e.g. LEAP, LIPW, PI and GSFP.

Its objective is to expand productive inclusion (PI) support for poor households that is LEAP household and LIPW beneficiaries in targeted communities.

Specifically, the component is intended to assist target beneficiaries to establish and manage their own micro enterprise/investment through the complementary livelihood and assets support scheme (CLASS) and increase agriculture productivity that will guarantee sustainable income.

The PI component is designed as a graduation pathway within Ghana social protection landscape (system) to assist extreme poor household to work their way out of poverty.
